The way the Jets finished off their 2011 season epitomized going down without a fight. After managing to remain in the playoff hunt despite their mediocre play, New York lost its final three games of the season. During the last game of the year — a 19-17 loss to the Dolphins — Santonio Holmes was benched by then offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for reportedly quitting on the team. When speaking to reporters on Monday, Holmes expressed no remorse for the way the 2011 season came to an end.
“Why should I?” Holmes said according to the NY Daily News. “I gave my statement after the game was over with and that was that. I left it at that. That’s why you guys didn’t have anything to talk about this offseason. You didn’t have anything to say to Santonio Holmes because I answered the questions correctly and I left it where it was at. It happened down in Miami. And that’s where it’s going to stay — down in Miami.”

Third person and everything. What a treat. Those of us who know Santonio are not the least bit surprised that he has no regrets about giving up on his team when they were in need of a spark. He’s right in the sense that you shouldn’t dwell on the past and instead focus on the future, but there’s nothing wrong with being an adult and admitting you were wrong. Unsurprisingly, admissions of guilt aren’t exactly Holmes’ strong suit.
