Tim Tebow Easter sermon expected to draw nearly 30,000 people

Easter is this Sunday, and Celebration Church is preparing for the coming … of Tim Tebow. Tebow, the NFL’s most notable devout Christian, is scheduled to deliver a sermon at the Georgetown, Texas, church during an outdoor worship service Sunday morning.

In preparation for Tebow’s arrival, Celebration has been erecting scaffolding and trellises for the 30,000 worshipers it expects to attend. The church typically has 7,000 guests for normal Sunday worships. Joe Champion, Celebration’s pastor, isn’t sure why the new Jets quarterback chose to speak at his church, but admitted Easter wasn’t the original date agreed upon.

“Obviously it’s our Super Bowl,” Champion said. “Easter is the resurrection of Christ, which we celebrate in our faith. We feel like it’s going to be a testimony to the community. We want it to be a family event.”

Champion knows he has a big guest on his hands but wants to make it clear that Tebow and his massive popularity won’t outshine the holiday’s meaning.

“It’s not a Tim Tebow show,” he said. “It’s not about a celebrity. There’s really only one celebrity that we are going to honor and highlight.”

Don’t worry, Tebow. It’s not Peyton Manning.
