TJ Ward on challenging his suspension: ‘My last name’s not Brady’

TJ-Ward

Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward has been suspended for the first game of the regular season for an alleged incident that took place at a bar last year. Ward appealed the suspension and had a hearing with the league earlier this offseason, but the penalty was upheld.

According to the arrest warrant, which was issued in May 2014, Ward was accused of throwing a glass mug at a bartender inside a Denver strip club. Ward ended up only having to pay a fine. You can read more details from the incident here.

On Thursday, Ward was asked if he would try to take his appeal a step further in an attempt to play Week 1. The 28-year-old seems to think he wouldn’t have much luck because he is not Tom Brady.

“I’m going to try, but my last name isn’t Brady so I’ll probably just have to sit it out,” Ward said.

While that was certainly a timely wisecrack, anyone who followed the Brady court case knows that the judge didn’t rule in favor of Brady because he’s a four-time Super Bowl champion with a supermodel wife. The NFL botched the case from start to finish and had no basis for issuing its punishment. The same probably isn’t true for Ward’s case.

For what it’s worth, Ward has somewhat of a history with the Patriots. He caught a vicious look from Bill Belichick two years ago after he injured Rob Gronkowski with a low hit.
