Darren Clarke somehow misses putt thanks to poor Chambers Bay green (Video)
A putt by Darren Clarke that somehow did not go in the cup perfectly encapsulates just how bad the greens are at the US Open at Chambers Bay.
Clarke shot a 7-over 77 in his first round on Thursday, and the former British Open champion carded a horrific 80 on Day 2 to finish in dead last and miss the cut. Perhaps he was deflated by what happened to him on Thursday.
Clarke entered the Par-4 12th hole five over and was putting for birdie. He was about 10 feet away and seemed to hit a perfect putt, but the ball rolled away at the last second, leaving him with a par putt.
FOX’s tracking shows just how much he got boned:
As Cork Gaines pointed out, this is exactly the kind of problem about which Sergio Garcia complained following his first round Thursday.
Happy with my Even par round today although it could've been a bit better by the way I played but this greens are as bad as the look on TV

I think a championship of the caliber of @usopengolf deserves better quality green surfaces that we have this week but maybe I'm wrong!

If my problem is saying what everyone thinks but they don't have the guts to say it, then I'm guilty of that for sure
