A serious mumps outbreak has affected several players on various teams across the NHL this season. Sidney Crosby claims he is not one of them.
Yet, for some reason, the entire right side of Crosby’s face is swollen. We’re not calling him a liar, but go ahead and google “mumps” and see what you find. The fact that Crosby looks like that and several players across the NHL have been diagnosed with mumps is alarming.
Crosby told reporters on Friday that he would not be at the rink if he had mumps. Penguins coach Mike Johnston said the team had a bunch of blood testing done and that doctors “didn’t mention anything” about any of the players being infected.
We know plays like this have given Crosby a reputation for being kind of soft, but that does not look fun.
UPDATE: The Penguins announced that Crosby will be held out of the next two games as a precaution, even though there has been “no indication” that he has the mumps. Probably a wise choice.
