Anderson Silva blames failed drug test on sexual performance supplement
Anderson Silva is really stretching the limits when it comes to his defense for his positive drug tests before and after his fight at UFC 183 in January.
Silva tested positive for Drostanolone and Androstane — both anabolic steroids — a few weeks before his fight with Nick Diaz. He also tested positive for Drostanolone in his post-fight urine test.
Silva plans to appear in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission Thursday to address the failed tests, and his legal team has formulated a defense. The defense blames the Drostanolone positive tests on a sexual performance supplement.
According to MMA Fighting, Silva’s lawyer Michael Alonso says Silva was “administering or using a supplement for the purpose of enhancing sexual performance and testing of the supplement revealed that the supplement was contaminated with an Exogenous Anabolic Agent: Drostanolone metabolite.”
They attribute the Androstane positive test to another supplement, and they also point out inconsistencies because Silva passed some other drug tests administered by Quest Diagnostics.
Maybe Silva’s defense isn’t as crazy as it seems. After all, a notable NFL player has claimed players use Viagra to enhance their performance on the field.
