Caroline Wozniacki: It’s a ‘pity’ I was criticized for Serena Williams impression

When Caroline Wozniacki decided to impersonate Serena Williams once again by stuffing her chest and behind with towels during a recent exhibition match, it likely never occurred to her that she would be accused of being racist. Williams and Wozniacki are friends, which is why Caroline thinks it’s a shame that people would say that about her when all she was trying to do was have a little fun.

“It’s been done a million times before by different players,” Wozniacki told the New York Times. “I would never have done it if I didn’t know Serena well. Obviously I know Serena very well. She’s a funny girl, and I knew she would take it with a smile and wouldn’t have anything against it.”

Serena did take it with a smile. In fact, she defended Wozniacki against those her were calling it racist by bringing up the fact that Andy Roddick and Novak Djokovic have done the same thing in the past. Very few — if any — people accused Roddick of Djokovic of being racist. Nevertheless, Wozniacki said she will think twice before doing anything like that again in the future.

“It is because there is nothing really in that that I saw as racist or anything, so obviously I think it’s a pity you can’t just have a bit of fun,” she explained.

I tend to agree. Williams doesn’t have a big butt because she’s black. She has a big butt because she has a big butt. If you want to call Wozniacki insensitive for poking fun at her body type, that’s one thing. Calling it racist is a stretch.

Rory McIlroy denies he is engaged to Caroline Wozniacki

For the second time in a month, rumors have been swirling that Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki are engaged. Last month, Serena Williams’ hitting partner made everyone believe the power couple had taken the next step in their relationship with a prank on Twitter. Then on Friday, reports surfaced that Wozniacki showed up to the Brisbane International sporting a diamond ring on her left ring finger.

According to McIlroy, the couple is not engaged. The world’s No. 1 golfer said that the rumors are untrue in a short statement on Friday afternoon.

“On behalf of Rory McIlroy I would like to confirm that he has NOT become engaged to Caroline Wozniacki as was originally reported in Australian press,” the statement said according to The Score. “Rory is in Australia to support Caroline before he heads in January to Abu Dhabi.”

Adding to the speculation earlier this week was this photo. As some of our commenters pointed out, you can see a tiny speck on Caroline’s left ring finger that could potentially be some sort of ring, but the photo is not nearly clear enough to tell.

On one hand, I’m inclined to subscribe to the “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” theory. On the other hand, Rory and Woz seem to love the public spotlight and showing everyone how much they adore each other. In fact, it even gets sickening at times. Are they really the type of couple that would keep an engagement a secret? It seems unlikely.

Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki once again rumored to be engaged

Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki are once again rumored to be engaged, but this time the details are a bit more believable. Last month, Serena’s Williams’ hitting partner Sascha Bajin started a frenzy among reporters when he congratulated Wozniacki on her engagement via Twitter. Caroline denied the rumor at the time, but it has once again resurfaced almost exactly a month later.

The Australian Associated Press and other media outlets are reporting (via Golf.com) that Wozniacki showed up to play in the Brisbane International on Friday with a diamond ring on her left finger. She reportedly wore the ring at the airport but removed it before she began her afternoon practice session at the Queensland Tennis Centre. McIlroy has accompanied her on the trip.

And that’s not all. On Wednesday, we showed you this picture of McIlroy and Wozniacki showing off some corny t-shirts that they apparently exchanged with each other on Christmas. It’s extremely difficult to tell, but a couple of commenters pointed out that it looks like there is a ring on Wozniacki’s left ring finger. What do you think?

UPDATE: McIlroy’s spokesperson denied the rumor. See the statement McIlroy’s camp issued here.

Did you expect anything less? Any Christmas that Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki are together for is bound to include some sort of embarrassing gift. For those of you who were looking forward to it, the tennis star and golf phenom did not disappoint.

Nothing says “Merry Christmas” like coordinated T-shirts that say “Geek” and “Nerd” on them. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — you’re killing me, Rory.

Is this the nice Christmas present Wozniacki was talking about when she interrupted McIlroy’s press conference last month? I sure hope not. Then again, it wouldn’t be the worst gift one of them has ever given the other.

Serena Williams did not find Caroline Wozniacki’s imitation to be racist

Caroline Wozniacki was accused of being racist when she stuffed her chest and behind in an attempt to imitate Serena Williams during a recent exhibition tennis match.

Williams, who calls the Danish tennis player a friend, has responded and indicated she did not find the imitation to be racist.

“I know Caro and I would call her my friend and I don’t think she (meant) anything racist by it,” Williams told USA Today over email.

“(Roddick) and (Djokovic) do it all the time and Caro does (it) and now it’s racist.??” she wrote. “At the end of the day I spend my time focused on things to become better and not bring me down.”

Though Williams does not believe the imitation is racist, she thinks her impersonators might be wise to shelve the act given the backlash.

“I must add if people feel this way she should take reason and do something different next time,” she said.

Maybe Serena’s comments on the matter will serve as a cue for people to drop the racism accusations. Like she referenced in her emails, nobody called it racist when Andy Roddick did the same thing last year, or when Wozniacki did it last time.

Caroline Wozniacki breaks out her Serena Williams impression again (Video)

It wouldn’t be the holiday season without Caroline Wozniacki busting out her Serena Williams impression, complete with a stuffed shirt and some butt enhancements. Over the weekend, Woz stuffed her clothes during a match against Maria Sharapova and paraded around as if she were Serena. She pulled the same stunt last year at this time and the crowd seemed to enjoy it then as well. Shockingly, Sharapova won the match 6-2 7-6.

I’m still going to give the nod to Andy Roddick when it comes to Serena impressions, simply because it’s just that much funnier to see a guy execute it. For whatever reason, tennis players seem to love impersonating each other. Serena is one of the most popular targets, but she can rest assured knowing that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

Caroline Wozniacki takes shot at Rory McIlroy’s ex-girlfriend Holly Sweeney?

Caroline Wozniacki appeared to take a shot at her boyfriend Rory McIlroy’s ex-girlfriend Holly Sweeney over the weekend.

Last year, Sweeney hosted a “Golf Pros, Tennis Hoes” themed-party on TV3′s “Come Dine With Me.” The theme for the party was a clear shot at McIlroy and Wozniacki, who are two of the top golfers and tennis players in the world, respectively. The episode was filmed a handful of months after McIlroy left Sweeney for Wozniacki. It aired in Ireland in April, leading to some backlash for Sweeney.

Sweeney’s “Come Dine With Me” episode aired on Channel 4 in the UK on Saturday evening, and it appeared to prompt a response from Wozniacki, who tweeted the following message on Saturday night:

Though the episode was enough to set off Wozniacki, it appears as if Sweeney is over it. She distanced herself from the episode in response to those who asked her about it over Twitter.
