Larry Brown Sports is a privately-owned sports news publication reaching millions of readers per month. The site was founded in January of 2007.

Site founder and owner Larry Brown is based in the Los Angeles area, while many of the staff writers are located throughout the United States, in cities such as Detroit, Boston and New York. Currently, the site has a staff of eight writers and contributors, and publishes on average 25 new stories per day.

Larry Brown – Founder, Publisher

Brown has 23 years of professional experience working in the sports media world. Prior to founding Larry Brown Sports, Brown served as a nationally-syndicated sports radio host and update anchor for FOX Sports Radio and Sporting News Radio. At 21 years of age when he began as an update anchor for FOX Sports Radio, he was the youngest nationally-syndicated voice on sports radio. Grey Papke — Staff Writer

Papke joined LBS in 2015 and is a staff writer based out of the Detroit area, with over 25,000 published posts to his credit. He is a longtime fan of Detroit sports teams and an expert on the Tigers. Prior to Larry Brown Sports, Papke served as managing editor and writer at the Detroit Tigers-centric Walkoff Woodward. A soccer fanatic, Papke has previously co-hosted a podcast about Manchester City.

Darryn Albert — Staff Contributor

Albert is a contributing writer and has published over 15,000 stories for Larry Brown Sports since joining the staff in 2015. Based out of the Los Angeles area, Albert graduated from UCLA, where he served as a sports talk show host for the campus radio station. He is also a graduate of Loyola Law School. Albert’s work has been featured on several other sports sites, including the now-defunct Sports Quotient, Halos Heaven, and Fight Monger.

Renzo Pocholo Salao — Staff Contributor

Salao is a staff writer based in Manila, Philippines. He covers all sports with a strong affinity for the NBA and his favorite team, the Washington Wizards. Salao also writes for SB Nation and previously served as senior editor at ClutchPoints before joining the Larry Brown Sports staff in 2023. When he’s not writing, he’s also a sports broadcaster whose play-by-play calls can be heard in local basketball leagues.

Dan Benton — Staff Contributor, NFL specialty

Benton is a 22-year journalist and member of the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA). Benton is based out of New York and a lifelong fan of the local teams, with a particular affinity for the Giants and Yankees. In addition to his work at Larry Brown Sports, Benton works for USA Today SMG, where he serves as the editor of Giants Wire. Benton has also worked for MSG, SNY, AOL Sports, and was the founder of Giants 101.

Villas is a veteran sports writer based out of Manila, Philippines. He covers a variety of sports and leagues, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college basketball and college football. He has been a sports writer for over 12 years and has over 15,000 published posts to his credit. In addition to his work for LBS, Villas serves as an associated senior editor at ClutchPoints and is a contributing write for Athlon Sports. He has won a basketball, baseball, and football championship in fantasy all within a year.

Matt Wadleigh — Staff Contributor

Wadleigh is based in Merced, Calif., and covers multiple sports for LBS. He was born and raised in the San Diego area and stays loyal to the Padres, Chargers and Aztecs. He studied print journalism at Fresno State for college and got to watch Paul George, Derek Carr and Davante Adams play in a Bulldogs uniform. Sam Ahn — Contributor, F1 focus

Ahn is based out of the Los Angeles area and covers F1 racing for LBS. He is a general sports enthusiast and former high school football city champion. A graduate of UCLA, Ahn is a fan of his local LA sports teams.

GUIDELINES

Though Larry Brown Sports is intended for an adult audience, several guidelines are followed when it comes to all content on the site. Cussing at LBS is kept to a minimum with most strong language being edited out. Nudity and violence is prohibited on the site. The extensive use of CAPS is highly discouraged while proper spelling and grammar are highly encouraged.

LBS READERS

The audience is mostly college-educated sports fans with an age range varying from 18-55 mostly. Though most of the content revolves around sports, there are frequent references to the pop culture world which opens up LBS to a broader audience. There are regular commenters who liven up the site and provide interesting discussions on several topics.

COMMENTER POLICY

LBS welcomes readers to respond to articles by commenting on blog posts. However, there are certain guidelines that must be followed with regard to comments. Personal attacks, threats, name-calling, profanity and racism are among the things that are not tolerated in comments section on LBS posts. LBS editors serve as the moderators for comments and may edit or delete comments at their discretion.
