Aaron Boone was not recognized by Angels’ security
Aaron Boone may be a first-year skipper, but that didn’t make an incident with Angel Stadium security over the weekend any less ridiculous.
Mike Mazzeo of the New York Daily News reported on Saturday that the New York Yankees manager was stopped in the stairwell by a security guard who asked to see his credential after an 11-1 victory that night over the Los Angeles Angels. Boone, who was dressed in full uniform, was heading to the visitors’ clubhouse after giving his postgame press conference to reporters. He was allowed to proceed when a Yankees official informed the security guard that Boone was, in fact, the manager of the opposing team.
After Sunday’s game with the Angels, which the Yankees also won 2-1, Boone came across the same stairwell and jokingly asked Yankees director of media relations Jason Zillo if he had remembered to bring a credential for him.
“Zillo, do you have my credential?” Aaron Boone, in the stairwell where he was nearly stopped last night.

Mazzeo does note that the stairwell can be a chaotic scene for security, since players’ family members also go down those same stairs. So while the Boone incident definitely made for some good comedy, at least it sounds much more forgivable than some of the similar episodes that we have seen in other sports.
