All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman on Friday penned a proper farewell message to the Houston Astros organization and its fan base.
News broke on Wednesday that Bregman had agreed to a massive deal to join the Boston Red Sox. Details on Bregman’s contract with the Red Sox can be found here.
Two days after Bregman’s decision to leave Houston went public, the 30-year-old took to Instagram to say goodbye to the place he called home for a decade.

“Dear Houston,” Bregman wrote. “From the moment I put on an Astros uniform, I felt the love, the passion, and the energy of this city.
“Together, we became champions—on and off the field. Eight playoff appearances, seven ALCS appearances, four World Series appearances, and two World Series titles. … We’ve faced adversity together, and that’s what makes this city and this team so special. That strength is embedded in the heart of every single person who is lucky enough to call Houston home.
“To the Astros Organization —thank you for believing in me, for pushing me to be my best, and for giving me the opportunity to live out my dream. To my teammates—you made every day at the ballpark unforgettable, and I will always cherish the memories we created together, both on and off the field. We are family. To the fans—thank you for every cheer, every chant, and every moment of support. I will never take our time together for granted.
“Houston, from the bottom of my heart—thank you.”
The Astros selected Bregman second overall in the 2015 MLB draft. He was called up to the majors just a year later and quickly lived up to the hype.
Bregman earned his first All-Star nod in his third season, batting .286 with 31 home runs, 103 RBIs, and an OPS of .926 across 157 games. He also led the American League with 51 doubles en route to a top-5 finish in MVP voting.
The LSU alum had his best year in 2019, his fourth in the majors. He raised his batting average to .296 and his OPS to 1.015. He tallied 41 home runs, 112 RBIs, and an MLB-best 119 walks. His 8.9 WAR was also the highest in the majors that season, landing him a top-2 finish in AL MVP voting. Bregman was also a vital part of two World Series-winning rosters in 2017 and 2022.
While the Astros played Bregman almost exclusively at third base, the Red Sox are reportedly planning to have him switch to a different spot in the infield.
