Alex Rodriguez meets with Yankees to apologize
Alex Rodriguez met with the New York Yankees on Tuesday in an attempt to clear the air.
A-Rod and the team released a joint statement about the meeting.
“Today we held a meeting at Yankee Stadium between Hal Steinbrenner, Randy Levine, Brian Cashman, Jean Afterman, Alex Rodriguez and Jim Sharp,” the statement read, via For the Win. “Alex initiated the meeting and apologized to the organization for his actions over the past several years.
“There was an honest and frank discussion on all of the issues. As far as the Yankees are concerned, the next step is to play baseball in spring training.”
Last month, the Yankees reportedly turned down A-Rod’s request for a clear-the-air meeting and told him they would speak to him when spring training began. Based on the way Rodriguez’s relationship with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has gone south in recent years, that wasn’t really a surprise.
There must have been a change of heart at some point. With rumors like this one swirling, the Yankees’ brass are probably trying to keep the distractions at a minimum heading into the season.
