Alex Rodriguez will not attend Derek Jeter Night
It’s been a long, long time since Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez considered themselves friends, and that was never more evident than during a CNBC interview earlier this month when the duo were sat next to each other and asked about their relationship.
Although both played it smooth, Jeter was clearly uncomfortable. And shortly thereafter, ESPN’s Dan Le Batard reported that Jeter was “beside himself angry” over it.
That hatchet won’t be buried any time soon, which is why it should come as little surprise that Rodriguez will not be attending Derek Jeter Night on Sunday when The Captain’s No. 2 jersey is officially retired by the New York Yankees.
Team PR released a list of those expected to be in attendance on Sunday night, and A-Rod’s name was a clear omission. The only thing that remains unclear is whether Jeter failed to invite him or Rodriguez turned down an invitation.

Jeter and Rodriguez spent 10 years as teammates with the Yankees, but had been friends long before that. However, their relationship had deteriorated over the years and became quite muddy at times.
Although Jeter is now retired and away from the game, Rodriguez remains a special adviser to the Yankees.
