Jadeveon Clowney is officially a member of the Dallas Cowboys, but his first impression of the organization is not necessarily something that seems positive at first glance.
Clowney raved about the Cowboys’ facilities on Monday after officially signing with the team. The former No. 1 pick said he felt that Cowboys players were “spoiled” by the amenities available to them, and that it would serve as a good motivator.
“I’ve been on 7 teams and this place is a lot different than any place I’ve been,” Clowney said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “They got a lot for these guys. They’re a little spoiled. Jerry Jones spoils his teams. You gotta play well when you’re spoiled like this. You want to be in a place like this for a while. Play good so you can stay around.”
The 32-year-old Clowney has played for some well-respected organizations, including the Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks, so this is some noteworthy praise. This cuts both ways, though, as Jones has a reputation for putting aesthetics before winning and creating a pressure-filled environment for players. There is also the fundamental reality that the team has not seriously contended for a title in years.
Clowney is expected to provide depth on the edge after Dallas traded Micah Parsons to Green Bay. He played in 14 games for the Carolina Panthers last season and collected 5.5 sacks.
