Angels, Jonathan Lucroy reportedly agree on 1-year deal

Jonathan Lucroy

The Angels appear to have their primary catcher for the 2019 MLB season locked up.

The Angels and catcher Jonathan Lucroy have agreed to a 1-year, $3.35 million deal, according to Yahoo’s Jeff Passan.

Lucroy is coming off the worst offensive season of his career. He batted .241 with a .617 OPS in 126 games for the Oakland A’s last season. However, his road numbers were still very solid (.260 batting average/.670 OPS) while he struggled at home in Oakland — a difficult park for hitters.

Lucroy, 32, is a few years removed from his offensive peak from 2012-2016 when he reached two All-Star Games. However, the Angels are probably figuring that playing in a new ballpark will help bump up his offensive numbers.

Lucroy will compete with Jose Briceno and Kevan Smith for playing time.
