Angels share update on Mike Trout’s latest injury

Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels may be dealing with Groundhog Day all over again.

The Angels superstar Trout exited Wednesday’s loss to the Seattle Mariners early due to an injury. During the third inning of the contest at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Wash., Trout was trying to leg out an infield grounder that he hit to the right side. He ended up getting thrown out and also hurting himself on the run.

Take a look at the video (after which Trout returned to the field for the bottom half of the third before leaving the game for good in the fourth inning).

Angels manager Ron Washington revealed after the game that Trout felt some soreness in his left knee when he hit the bag and was removed as a precaution. Trout himself also said afterwards that the knee was already feeling better and that he was going to try to play in the Angels’ next game on Thursday, per Jeff Fletcher of the OC Register.

The Angels are clearly trying to downplay the severity of Trout’s injury, but there is still some cause for concern here. Trout, the three-time AL MVP, has been a mainstay on the injured list in recent years, missing an average of around 95 games in each of the previous four seasons. An issue with the left knee is also particularly worrisome for Trout as that is the knee he had surgically repaired after two separate meniscus tears last season (limiting him to a career-low 29 games played).

This season, Trout has already matched that number with 29 games played but has not been at all effective with a miserable slash line of .173/.261/.462. Trout also had a comically unlucky start to the 2025 campaign, and now the 33-year-old star is battling yet another injury concern.
