Aroldis Chapman suspension could include spring training
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is expected to rule on the Aroldis Chapman domestic violence allegations in the coming days, and a report says a suspension could even include spring training games.
The New York Daily News’ Mark Feinsand reports that nothing can be ruled out in terms of a suspension for Chapman. That includes a suspension for spring training games, a ban from team facilities during, or what many believe is more likely — a suspension of regular season games.
Chapman is accused of choking his girlfriend. However, he says he merely poked her in the shoulder and he calls her brothers and friends the aggressors. No charges were filed due to a lack of injuries, inconsistent stories and a lack of cooperation by witnesses.
The allegations were enough to cause the Dodgers to back out of a trade for the closer. They also reportedly scared off the Red Sox, but the Yankees decided they still wanted to acquire him.
The 27-year-old Cuban fireballer says he will appeal any suspension.
