Oakland Athletics left-hander Brett Anderson doesn’t exactly have much experience at the plate, but he overcame that on Tuesday in a funny way.
Anderson pitched the A’s to an 11-4 win over the Chicago Cubs in interleague play and also helped his own cause by getting two hits (both singles) in three at-bats on the day. After the game, the 31-year-old revealed the mindset that helped lead to his success in the batter’s box.
“The thought process was ‘Don’t look like an idiot,’ and I end up getting two hits,” said Anderson, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The veteran also joked about his much rougher third at-bat, a swinging strikeout on just four pitches.
“The third one was like, ‘All right, I might try to hit one hard,’ and I swung at one over my head,” he continued. “I blacked out. I swung and found a hole.”
Anderson, who has played eight of his 11 MLB seasons in the American League, entered play on Tuesday with 10 hits in 82 career at-bats (.122).
At least he didn’t injure himself at the plate this time like he once did.
