The Houston Astros have finally offered a retraction to SI reporter Stephanie Apstein after trashing her original story about former assistant GM Brandon Taubman.
Apstein published the original story about Taubman taunting female reporters over the team’s acquisition of Roberto Osuna, who had been suspended for domestic violence. The Astros went scorched earth, calling that story “completely irresponsible” in their initial statement. They were ultimately made to look silly when the facts emerged, and they were on Apstein’s side.
That ultimately led to owner Jim Crane offering a retraction on behalf of the organization.

There was some anger on Friday when GM Jeff Luhnow wouldn’t commit to issuing a retraction. Ultimately, the Astros did the right thing and sent one. They’ll hope this is the last we hear of this story, but with further MLB punishment possible, it might not be.
