Bad Bunny continues to make huge moves in the sports world, this time trying to make sure one of Puerto Rico’s star players can play in the World Baseball Classic.
The musician offered to pay for insurance to allow Carlos Correa to play in the event, the Houston Astros infielder confirmed Friday. However, Correa declined the offer on the advice of the Astros and agent Scott Boras.
“They all told me it was a bad idea,” Correa said, via Chandler Rome of The Athletic. “They all told me the insurance company that was proposed to me had cases where they were not paying players back. Since it was not approved by MLB, not approved by the organization and not approved by my agent, I could not sign my life away with something that three people that I trust are telling me not to do.”
Correa was denied insurance through National Financial Partners, which handles WBC insurance, due to his extensive injury history. As a result, he could not play in the event, one of a number of players to be denied because of injury concerns.
Correa previously played for Puerto Rico in the 2017 WBC. He played in 144 games last season, but was limited to 86 games in 2024. Concerns about the long-term health of his ankle wound up costing him two huge contracts three years ago.
Bad Bunny is, of course, coming off a high-profile Super Bowl halftime show at Super Bowl LX.
