The Chicago Cubs will be getting Ben Zobrist back.
Zobrist has been away from the team since May 6 due to personal reasons as he is going through a divorce with his wife.
As of late May, Cubs manager Joe Maddon was preparing in case Zobrist did not return to the team. However, as recently as a few days ago, there was cautious optimism about his potential return.
On Friday, Cubs executive Theo Epstein informed the media that Zobrist would be returning to the club. The plan is to have Zobrist begin a rehab assignment next weekend and then potentially be with the big club around Sept. 1.
Theo says plan is for Ben Zobrist to return this season to Cubs. He will go on a minor-league assignment next weekend and that could last roughly a month.
So timeline still in order for Zobrist to potentially return to Chicago about Sept. 1.

Zobrist is highly valuable due to his versatility. He plays most infield and outfield positions and has seen time and both corner outfield spots, second base, and DH this season.
