Report: Blue Jays have offered Edwin Encarnacion 4 years, $80 million
The Toronto Blue Jays are still doing their best to retain free agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion.
According to a report by Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports on Monday, the Blue Jays have offered Encarnacion roughly $80 million over four years as they remain interested in keeping the three-time All-Star even after signing free agent designated hitter Kendrys Morales to a three-year, $33 million deal.
Talks between the two sides appear to be ongoing, but the aforementioned offer may be somewhat of a far cry from the deal Encarnacion, who will turn 34 years old in January, is said to be seeking.
Still, there’s likely a middle ground to be had somewhere here, so don’t go preparing the breakup mixtape for the Blue Jays and Encarnacion just yet.
