1 key factor helped lead Carlos Correa to pick Twins

Carlos Correa surprised those across MLB when he chose to sign with the Minnesota Twins in free agency. But the decision makes a little more sense when you consider one factor that influenced the shortstop’s thought process.

The New York Post’s Joel Sherman published an article on Tuesday regarding Correa’s decision. Among the factors that led Correa to pick the Twins was his success hitting at Target Field.

Correa has played 15 career games at Target Field. He has gone 26/63 in those games with seven doubles and five home runs. He has a career .413 average and 1.205 OPS at Target Field, which are his best numbers at any park where he has played multiple games during his career.

Part of the reason Correa has had so much success at Target Field could be because he enjoyed feasting on the Twins’ pitching, which he will no longer be doing. But it seems very reasonable that there is something comfortable about the ballpark for him that has led to his success there.

Correa’s 3-year deal with Minnesota includes opt outs after the first two years. If he plays well this season, it’s very possible that Correa will choose to become a free agent in hopes of signing the big type of deal Corey Seager and Francisco Lindor have landed.
