Former Boston Red Sox president Chaim Bloom has landed a new job a few months after being ousted from his position.

Bloom is joining the St. Louis Cardinals as an advisor, the team announced Monday. Bloom will assist Cardinals president John Mozeliak in running baseball operations.

Bloom is a solid get for the Cardinals. Despite his middling record in Boston, he was highly regarded in his previous job with the Tampa Bay Rays, and his reputation is still fairly strong. It would not be a surprise to see him parlay this position into another executive role somewhere down the road.

Bloom lost his job in Boston after failing to turn them into a consistent playoff contender on a lower payroll. The Cardinals are also embarking on a rebuilding effort after going 71-91 last season, and Bloom will be expected to help Mozeliak through that process.
