Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Iannetta had to exit Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates after getting hit in the face by a pitch.
Iannetta was facing Pirates reliever Johnny Barbato in the bottom of the seventh inning when he took the 93 mph pitch to his nose area.

The veteran catcher was visibly bleeding and had to exit the game, which ultimately wound up an 11-4 victory for Arizona. But MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert reports that Iannetta was able to walk off the field under his own power.

A similar incident took place between these two teams last season, and it’s worth wondering if Iannetta will need a stint on the disabled list to recover.
