Christian Yelich talked on Friday about the support he received from Baker Mayfield a day earlier, and he was glowing about it.
Mayfield showed up to the Cleveland Browns’ Thursday night game against the New York Jets wearing a Yelich jersey.

That was pretty awesome, but things got even better. Mayfield entered the game in the second quarter for his NFL debut and proceeded to lead the Browns to a 21-17 comeback victory — the team’s first win since Dec. 2016. Then after the game, Mayfield concluded his press conference by shouting out Yelich for NL MVP.
I'm not sure any @officialBBWAA were listening or watching @bakermayfield's post-game conference, but his message was pretty simple for them regarding the NL MVP.

Yelich and Mayfield worked out together earlier this year at Proactive Sports Performance in Yelich’s hometown of Westlake Village, Calif. The two became quick friends.
My dude @ChristianYelich made an upgrade to the @Brewers so naturally I had to get some custom gear ordered. Can't wait to see him ball this season! #MMO pic.twitter.com/02oEnDVay2

That support has carried over into the season, where Yelich has enjoyed a breakout year for the Milwaukee Brewers, while Mayfield became the toast of Cleveland overnight.
Yelich talked about the support from Mayfield prior to Friday’s game against the Pirates and said the MVP shoutout was especially cool.
Christian Yelich did not report to PNC Park today wearing a Baker Mayfield jersey. "Forgot to pack it on this road trip," he said with a laugh. "It was really bad timing, actually. It’s in my locker in Milwaukee. Probably should have brought that one with me, huh?"

Yelich said he had a heads up that Mayfield was going to be sporting the signed "Yeli" jersey he got in the offseason, but he had no idea Mayfield was going to stump for him for NL MVP at the podium after the Browns' first win since 2016.

Said Yelich of Mayfield: "I didn’t know he was going to do that, but it was cool. (The NL MVP) is kind of for all you guys to debate and decide. But I was really happy for him and the Browns yesterday. That’s probably the most I’ve cared about a football game in a while."

The way Yelich has been playing, Mayfield’s call for him to be NL MVP is tough to dispute.
