Cubs-Pirates fight after Jake Arrieta is hit by pitch (Video)
The Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates got into a benches-clearing incident during their one-game playoff on Wednesday after Jake Arrieta was hit by a pitch in the top of the seventh inning.
Arrieta was on the hill for the Cubs and pitching a shutout. He hit Francisco Cervelli in the fifth and Josh Harrison in the sixth, though it was pretty apparent that in such a close playoff game, he would not being doing so intentionally.
However, Tony Watson didn’t care, and the Pirates reliever decided to hit Arrieta when he came up to bat in the 7th.
Arrieta getting hit led to his teammates coming out of the dugout to monitor the situation. The Pirates bench also cleared, and pretty soon it was a full-on brawl.
Pirates infielder Sean Rodriguez was heated during the incident and may have thrown a punch, which led to his ejection. He also went crazy busting up a Gatorade cooler before exiting the dugout.
