David Price has chosen to wear No. 33 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, a number he’s never worn before. He has a specific reason for choosing that one, however.
Price said Wednesday that he chose to wear the number in honor of James Shields, his former teammate with the Tampa Bay Rays. Price credited Shields for being a mentor to him when he was new to the majors.
David Price has gone from 14 to 24 to 10 to, now, 33, in honor of James Shields, who helped him learn how to be a major leaguer. "For him to do what he did for me, I thought this was a way for me to pay him back a little bit," Price said.

This is a neat gesture. Lots of players wear numbers in honor of the stars they idolized when they were younger, but not as many pay tribute to those who mentored them when they were young players. Price has done that. If you need proof of how much he looked up to Shields, Price showed off his predictive powers when watching his old friend play several years back.
