The Arizona Diamondbacks have added another outfielder to their mix.
Arizona announced on Wednesday that they have acquired Jon Jay in a trade with the Kansas City Royals. They are giving up pitchers Gabe Speier and Elvis Luciano in return.
Arizona has been playing Jarrod Dyson and Chris Owings in center field since losing AJ Pollock to a thumb injury. Dyson is hitting just .206 on the season, whereas Jay is batting .307. Arizona clearly saw that as a big upgrade while they wait for Pollock to return.
Pollock is likely to miss at least another month before returning.
Jay comes cheaply, which is a nice bonus. He is making just $3 million this season and will be a free agent after the year.
