After putting together back-to-back strong performances to start the month, the string of good outings my Oakland A’s pitcher Drew Pomeranz came to an abrupt end on Monday.
The Texas Rangers roughed up Pomeranz for eight hits and seven earned runs in only 3.2 innings, his shortest start of the season.
Not surprisingly, the 25-year-old was frustrated with his brief appearance. Unfortunately, the way in which Pomeranz chose to act on that frustration will now cost him time on the disabled list.

On the way back to the clubhouse Pomeranz let out some anger on a wooden chair and fractured his right hand.
Pomeranz punched a wooden chair out of frustration on his way back to the clubhouse last night.

Pomeranz: "It sucks. It was stupid. Obviously it's something I didn't mean to happen. I want to pitch, I want to win games, help this team."

Melvin: "I know he feels horrible. It wasn't intentional. It was out of frustration. But he's also gotta realize there are ramifications."

There’s no timetable yet for a return and if there is a silver lining it’s that the injury is to Pomeranz’s non-throwing hand. As for manager Bob Melvin mentioning his pitcher needs to realize there are ramifications, I think Pomeranz fully understands that now.
