Eric Gagne signs with Long Island Ducks

Eric Gagne

Eric Gagne has gone from the major leagues to the independent leagues.

The former Cy Young Award winner has signed with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League, the team announced Friday.

In a statement on the signing, the team acknowledged that Gagne will be using his time to try and catch the attention of MLB teams.

“Eric is similar to so many former Major League players that utilize the Atlantic League as a showcase to be seen by all 30 big league clubs,” said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “The Ducks are pleased to offer him this opportunity.”

Gagne, 41, has been targeting an MLB comeback. He pitched in the World Baseball Classic and turned heads by throwing 95 mph. He and his former team the Dodgers were said to be discussing a minor league deal, though nothing materialized. Perhaps if he does well with the Ducks some team will give him a shot.
