Watch: Fan hits Giancarlo Stanton with home run ball thrown back

Giancarlo Stanton

A Boston Red Sox fan wanted nothing to do with a home run ball hit by rival Giancarlo Stanton during Saturday’s game against the New York Yankees, so he decided to throw it back. And he made sure Stanton knew what happened.

Stanton launched a ball over the Green Monster at Fenway Park to make it 8-2 Yankees in the top of the 7th. The fan who snagged the home run ball promptly wound up and chucked it back onto the field, where it took a bounce and hit Stanton as the outfielder circled past second base.

Stanton didn’t seem to mind being hit with the ball, especially since the ball bounced first and probably didn’t hurt much compared to if he were hit by it on a fly. Considering this is also his first season with the Yankees, the move may actually lead to him appreciating the rivalry even more.
