Fernando Tatis Jr. is going Hollywood (sort of).
The San Diego Padres star Tatis is signing with Roc Nation Sports, Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported on Monday. Roc Nation will now be representing Tatis, who was previously with Bad Bunny’s Rimas Sports.
Tatis, 27, is currently having something of a down year for the 62-57 Padres. While he is hitting a very respectable .283, Tatis has also posted a career-low .769 OPS and infamously failed to hit his first home run of the season until late May. Overall on the year, Tatis now has 11 home runs, 54 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases over 117 total games.
As for Roc Nation Sports, they were founded by music mogul Jay-Z in 2013. Over the years, they have slowly expanded their client list into Major League Baseball and also currently represent the likes of CJ Abrams, Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Max Meyer.
Tatis is still under contract all the way until 2034 as part of a monster 14-year, $340 million deal with the Padres. As a result, he will not need Roc Nation to negotiate any new baseball contracts for him.
Instead, Tatis seems to be focused on his off-the-field business ventures, including endorsements and other potential branding and marketing opportunities. He will be able to do plenty of that now with Roc Nation Sports, who even represent some notable retired baseball figures as well.
