Cleveland Guardians star Jose Ramirez is aiming very high for the 2025 season.
Ramirez offered an incredible quote about his statistical goal for the new season after being asked by a reporter if he had lost weight during the offseason. The third baseman said he traded fat for muscle, but maintained the same weight.
When asked if he planned to go for a 50/50 season, Ramirez had the perfect deadpan response.

“I would love to do 100/100, but the game isn’t easy. I’ll do my best,” Ramirez said.
"Did you lose weight this winter?"

José Ramírez: "I lost fat and increased muscle, so I have the same weight I finished at least season, but a different body."
"Is that so you can go 50/50?"
Ramírez: "I would love to do 100/100, but the game isn't easy. I'll do my best."
For context, Shohei Ohtani became the first-ever member of the 50/50 club last year by hitting 54 home runs and stealing 59 bases. Ramirez hit 39 home runs and stole 41 bases for Cleveland in 2024, so he has some work to do if he wants to pull off the 100/100 feat.
Ramirez is joking around, of course, though he probably would love a 50/50 season. He is one of only a handful of players who has the skillset to even entertain the possibility, though it is still highly unlikely.
Guardians fans love Ramirez for his sense of humor, not to mention his star power. Achieving anything close to the statistical milestones he is talking about would make him a household name.
