It didn’t take long for the fireworks to begin at Fenway Park on Thursday, a day after a big brawl between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.
Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez was hit in the wrist area during the first inning of the rubber match in the three-game series. Yankees pitcher Sonny Gray immediately seemed conciliatory, which would contradict any notions that he hit Ramirez intentionally. And with the game scoreless and a runner on already, putting someone on base seems like the opposite of what he would want to do.

Ramirez left the game and was replaced by Mitch Moreland. Warnings were issued to both teams after Ramirez was hit.
Hanley being hit in the wrist is a bad sign. Players can often suffer broken bones when hit by 94 mph pitches in the hand area. The last thing Boston would want is to see Ramirez miss time when he’s started off the season so hot with a .357 average.
