Hanley Ramirez’s attitude has reportedly ‘irked’ Red Sox veterans

Hanley-Ramirez

The Boston Red Sox are in last place in the AL East and have found themselves in the same discussion as teams like the Miami Marlins. One of their big offseason acquisitions, Pablo Sandoval, was recently benched after he went on Instagram in the middle of a game. The other, Hanley Ramirez, is apparently annoying some teammates.

According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, Ramirez has “irked” members of the Red Sox’s clubhouse with his antics this season. While he has shown some tremendous power at the plate, Ramirez’s attitude has reminded Boston fans of the last right-handed slugger they had who shared the same last name. Hanley has a tendency to not hustle and make dumb mistakes on the base paths.

What did the Red Sox expect?

On the surface, it appeared Boston was getting a decent value when it signed the 31-year-old Ramirez to a four-year, $88 million contract. However, the Sox were banking on him growing up, so to speak. It doesn’t sound like that has happened.

While it may be too early to hit the panic button, this Red Sox team already looks a lot like the one they blew up a few years back by sending Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett to the Los Angeles Dodgers. With David Ortiz hitting just .232 and growing more frustrated with the media by the day, the team lacks leadership. Ramirez’s ability to do things like this with a bat has not translated to many wins.
