Jose Ramirez wants to be in Home Run Derby, predicts he would win it
Most players would be happy just to receive an invitation to the Home Run Derby, but Jose Ramirez took it one step further on Tuesday.
In an interview with Zack Meisel of The Athletic, the Cleveland Indians slugger was asked if he would like to compete in the event next month.
“Yeah, I would do it,” replied Ramirez through Cleveland’s team interpreter. “I want to do it.
“I’ve wanted to do it,” he continued. “If they put me there, I would win it.”
Ramirez, 25, definitely has the bat to back up his braggadocio — he clubbed 29 home runs for the Indians in 2017 and is now tied for third in the league with 18 dingers in just 57 games so far this season.
We already know that last year’s champ won’t be defending his title this year, so that could create just the opening that Ramirez needs to make good on his bold prediction here.
