Report: Ken Giles has no structural damage in elbow
The Toronto Blue Jays have become committed sellers ahead of Wednesday’s trade deadline, but one of their best trade pieces has injury questions swirling around him. A trip to a specialist this week may or may not have answered some of those questions.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that Blue Jays closer Ken Giles had an MRI on Tuesday that revealed no structural damage in his pitching elbow. However, he did receive a cortisone shot and will not pitch again before Wednesday.
#BlueJays closer Ken GIles visited Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas today, source tells The Athletic. An MRI revealed no structural damage in Giles’ elbow, but upon Meister’s recommendation, the pitcher received a cortisone shot. Will not pitch again before deadline.

Giles was unavailable on Monday with what was described as elbow inflammation, and it is obviously good news that he has no structural damage. However, any injury this close to the deadline is bound to hurt a player’s trade value, and that will almost certainly be the case with the right-hander.
Giles missed some time earlier in the month with the elbow issue, but he has been outstanding when available this season. The 28-year-old has 14 saves to go along with a 1.54 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. He has struck out 58 batters in 35 innings.
