Lorenzo Cain wants to play through rib injury
Lorenzo Cain left Tuesday’s loss to the Cincinnati Reds because of an intercostal injury, but he wants to play through it.
The Milwaukee Brewers center fielder was 0-for-2 with a strikeout in the game. Manager Craig Counsell said he removed Cain from the game because he did not like the way Cain was swinging. Counsell added that Cain does not want to miss any time.
Counsell on Cain injury: "I just thought he took some swings tonight in his second at-bat that didn’t look good, so we took him out of the game. We’ll see how we’re looking [Wednesday]. He’s pretty adamant about wanting to play, but we have to be careful with this thing, too.”

Keon Broxton replaced Cain in enter.
The Brewers are now 86-66 and trail the Chicago Cubs by three games in the NL Central (pending the outcome of the Cubs’ Tuesday game against Arizona). They lead in the wild-card race by two games over the Cardinals and three over Colorado.
Milwaukee wants to have all their options available down the stretch but will have to manage Cain carefully.
