Luke Heimlich has found a job in professional baseball, though it’s not with an MLB team.
Heimlich has signed with Dos Laredos Tecolotes of Liga Mexicana de Beisbol, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Heimlich went undrafted as a junior and senior coming out of Oregon State due to his criminal past as a child sex offender. The former two-time Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year pleaded guilty when he was 15 to molesting a 6-year-old niece. The story about Heimlich’s criminal past was made public in a story published by The Oregonian towards the end of OSU’s season in 2017. It led Heimlich to go undrafted despite prior expectations that he would be a first-round pick.
The lefty pitcher entered a diversion program and had two years of probation as part of his guilty plea. He has insisted his innocence, saying he only pleaded guilty due to bad legal advice.
Heimlich reportedly agreed to a deal last year with a Chinese team, but the league cancelled the deal citing the pitcher’s criminal history. The southpaw was 36-13 with a 2.49 ERA during his Oregon State career.
