Mac from ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ finally had his catch with Chase Utley
Mac from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” finally got to experience his dream.
During the sixth episode of season five of the popular TV show, Mac’s love letter to Chase Utley was shared on the show. In his love letter, Mac says to Chase that maybe they could have a catch one day.
That love letter aired in 2009 when Utley was the star of a Phillies powerhouse team that had won the World Series the year before and lost in it in 2009.
Four years later, Utley responded to the letter.
Though Utley responded to the letter, the catch never happened. Until now.
Friday was Utley retirement night at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia, and Rob McElhenney (who plays Mac), attended and got to catch the ceremonial first pitch from Chase.

The Phillies could not have done much better by having Mac out for the catch.
Utley’s honor by the Phillies is as deserved as possible. Chase was a six-time All-Star for the Phillies, taking them to two World Series, winning one. A potential Hall of Famer, he batted .282 with an .847 OPS during 13 seasons with Philly and was also recognized as a very good defensive second baseman.
