Fans surely got their money’s worth while watching ALDS Game 5 between the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Wash.
The Mariners and Tigers were in a pitchers’ duel Friday as the two teams duked it out in what turned into a defensive showcase. Starting pitchers Tarik Skubal and George Kirby allowed just one run apiece as the two sides finished the ninth inning tied 2-2.
Both bullpens got the memo throughout extra innings, as neither team yielded a run through the first 11 frames of additional baseball. Fans watching the game couldn’t help but share memes on social media as they continued to watch the seemingly never-ending contest to decide the fate of both franchises.

At least one of the teams had a runner in scoring position from the 10th inning onwards. But defense won out for the first five extra innings, with a timely strikeout or ground-ball double-play preventing either team from plating a run.
Seattle finally broke through in the bottom of the 15th inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Mariners second baseman Jorge Polanco snuck a ground ball to right field for a walk-off RBI single.
The ending was certainly worth the wait for long-tortured Mariners fans, as their team advanced to the ALCS for the first time since 2001.
