Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts left Sunday’s game against the Texas Rangers after he was hit with a throw while running the bases.
Betts, who has been red hot this season, singled to start off the game. Fellow outfielder Andrew Benintendi then followed with a grounder to first base, and Betts was hit on the right shoulder when Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman tagged the bag and fired toward second. Betts stayed in the game and scored a run, but he was seen flexing his arm after lining out in the second and was pulled.
Right shoulder contusion (a bruise) for Betts per the Sox. Nothing further announced but presumably day-to-day.

The injury didn’t seem serious, but the timing is pretty rough for Betts. The 25-year-old had belted five home runs in his past four games heading into Sunday, and he leads all MLB hitters with his .355 batting average and 13 long balls. He recently joined extremely elite company with his second three-homer game of the season.
