Noah Syndergaard says ‘like’ of tweet about Mets drama was accidental

Things have gone from bad to worse for the New York Mets over the past two weeks or so, but Noah Syndergaard insists his recent social media activity is not an accurate portrayal of how he feels about all the drama that has unfolded.

Earlier in the week, Syndergaard “liked” a tweet that said Mets manager Mickey Callaway must have blackmail material on general manager Brodie Van Wagenen in order to have not been fired by now. Many interpreted that as Syndergaard’s way of saying he wants Callaway gone, but the pitcher insists he did not intentionally hit the “like” button.

Syndergaard, who recently landed on the injured list with a strained right hamstring, has struggled this season like many of his teammates. He has a 5-4 record with a 4.55 ERA in 15 starts. The highest ERA the right-hander has ever finished a season with was 3.24 in his first year in the majors.

The Mets have lost five straight games heading into their series against the Atlanta Braves, and Callaway has been on the hot seat for quite some time. Many were surprised he was not fired after an embarrassing confrontation with a reporter recently, and there have to be players on the team who would be happy to see him go. Syndergaard doesn’t want to give off the impression that he is one of them.
