Baltimore Orioles general manager Dan Duquette has confirmed that the team has interest in signing Hanley Ramirez.
Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox last month and is now a free agent after clearing waivers. On Saturday, Ken Rosenthal reported that the Orioles have looked into signing the veteran first baseman/designated hitter. Duquette has since confirmed the report, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe.

Ramirez got off to a strong start this season, hitting .341/.412/.494 in April. He cooled off considerably in May, posting a .163/.200/.300 batting line.
The Orioles have rotated several players in and out of the designated hitter position this season, with Pedro Alvarez and Mark Trumbo seeing the most at-bats. They also have Chris Davis at first base, who is under contract through the 2022 season. It may just be the Orioles doing their due diligence, because there doesn’t seem to be a great fit for Ramirez in Baltimore.
