Padres reportedly have offered Manny Machado over $250 million
The San Diego Padres have been heavily involved in their pursuit of Manny Machado, and by the sounds of it, they’ve made a very competitive offer.
According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the Padres have made an offer of roughly eight years and $250 million to Machado. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune goes even further, reporting that the financial terms of the offer are even higher than that.
I don’t know the years. But my understanding is offer to Machado is for more than $250 million. https://t.co/kSkJo5DVwo

Don’t know how many years involved in “$250-plus” offer for Manny Machado, don’t know structure.
But #Padres got creative in landing Eric Hosmer, are working similar path here.
One thing they can do is give larger signing bonus. No state tax on SB since Machado a Fla. resident.— Kevin Acee (@sdutKevinAcee) February 18, 2019
Both Machado and Bryce Harper are going to end up signing very late. It appears, however, that they will still get pretty hefty paydays. Harper is looking at upwards of $300 million, and Machado appears to be moving close to that neighborhood as well. As reported, the deal would pay him upwards of $30 million annually, putting him comfortably near the top of MLB salaries.
