Report: Padres pursuing Dallas Keuchel, other starting pitchers
The San Diego Padres have been chasing after starting pitchers all offseason and even now that the season is underway, they’re not stopping now.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Padres are talking with free agent left-hander Dallas Keuchel, but are not willing to meet the asking price at this time.
Keuchel is not the only pitcher on San Diego’s radar. The team tried to land Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer via trade even as the season was starting, and they have also discussed Toronto’s Marcus Stroman.
Rosenthal reports that the Padres are not close to adding any of these pieces, but with a young rotation that is not used to a Major League workload, they likely won’t rest until they get a veteran starter.
As late as March, we heard that the Padres were trying to land some big names. Early season trades are unusual, but it doesn’t sound like San Diego intends to stop trying.
