Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez is sharing some difficult news this week.
In a video post to Instagram on Tuesday night, Martinez revealed that he had family members missing as a result of this week’s roof collapse at the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
“I still have family members that are still in the [rubble] and we don’t know what happened to them,” said Martinez.

The three-time Cy Young winner Martinez, who is a native of the Dominican Republic, also expressed his condolences to all those impacted by the tragedy, saying, “We are all affected.” You can watch his full video here.
As of the time of writing, the death toll in the Jet Set roof collapse has risen to at least 124. Over 150 injuries have also been reported as the search continues in the rubble for survivors. The cause of the disaster still has yet to be determined.
The collapse occurred early Tuesday morning during a concert at the nightclub by famous merengue singer Rubby Pérez. The event had drawn hundreds of prominent figures, including celebrities, politicans, and athletes.
Former MLB pitcher Octavio Dotel, a World Series champion with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011, was among those killed in the collapse. Also killed were ex-MLB first baseman Tony Blanco (who reportedly pulled a heroic move right before his death), and Nelsy Cruz (the governor of the province of Monti Cristi as well as the younger sister of seven-time MLB All-Star slugger Nelson Cruz).
