Rockies deny pulling a petty move on Kris Bryant

The Colorado Rockies are addressing an unflattering claim this week about their relationship with Kris Bryant.

The Chicago Cubs held their annual “Cubs Convention” over the weekend, a three-day fan festival celebrating all things Cubs. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the Cubs’ 2016 World Series-winning team, and the franchise hosted a 2016 team reunion to celebrate the occasion.

Numerous former 2016 Cubs, including Anthony Rizzo and also players currently active on other teams like Javy Baez and Kyle Schwarber, took part in the reunion. Here is a video.

One prominent member of that World Series team not in attendance at the reunion though was the Rockies infielder Bryant. A report promptly circulated online claiming that Colorado did not allow Bryant to attend the festivities.

However on Saturday, the Rockies gave a response to that report. According to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post, it is not true that Colorado prevented Bryant from attending.

The ex-NL MVP Bryant signed a seven-year, $182 million deal with the Rockies in 2022 but hasn’t been worth a lick of that ever since. He has batted just .244 over his four seasons in Colorado and has posted a -1.6 WAR over that collective span as well. Even worse than that is that Bryant, 34, has been riddled with injuries and hasn’t even played in 50 percent of the team’s games in a single given year (posting seasons of 42, 80, 37, and 11 appearances).

Bryant has since indicated that he regrets signing with the Rockies, and he is also now dealing with an alarming chronic injury that cost him virtually all of the 2025 campaign. So while his relationship with Colorado cannot be great right now, it does not appear that the team prevented him from taking part in this week’s 2016 Cubs reunion.
