Colorado Rockies outfielder Jake Cave was involved in a scary incident during batting practice on Friday.

Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports that Cave was hit in the side of the head by a line drive during the Rockies’ BP session before their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was taken off the field on a cart with a towel pressed to his head, Saunders adds.

Colorado team reporter Kelsey Wingert-Linch also noted that Cave was down on the field for around 10 minutes before being carted off.

The Rockies later revealed that Cave suffered “a minor cut to his forehead” as a result of the incident. Colorado manager Bud Black was set to provide more details on Cave after the game against Pittsburgh.

Cave, 31, was scheduled to start in right field on Friday but was scratched from the lineup after the episode. A minor cut does sound like the best-case scenario for Cave, who is batting .238 for the Rockies this season. But future updates will provide a clearer picture. This also comes just a couple of weeks after another NL player was struck in the head in a similarly scary scene.
