A former MLB All-Star has decided to call it a career.

Veteran pitcher Ross Stripling issued a statement via social media on Monday announcing that he has retired from baseball.

“After 13 seasons and full of tremendous pride and gratitude, it’s time to hang up the cleats,” Stripling wrote. “I never could have imagined the experiences and memories I’d be a part of. They exceeded every hope that my younger self could have dreamt for my baseball career.

“It never could have been possible without my family and friends. I also want to give a huge thank you to all my coaches and teammates over the years. I had so much love and support along the way, and I’m thankful to everyone that was a part of it in any form or fashion. All of you helped me be the best baseball player I could be.

“This has been an unbelievable honor, and I feel incredibly lucky to be so fulfilled and content with leaving the game behind. Now, I’m excited to be home and begin the next chapter of life with my amazing family.”

Stripling pitched nine seasons in the majors. He made his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016 and remained with the team until 2020, when he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays. Stripling played for the Blue Jays for two plus seasons before brief stints with the Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants to close out his career.

Stripling earned the first and only All-Star nod of his career with the Dodgers in 2018. He went 8-6 with a 3.02 ERA that year in 33 appearances, 21 of which were starts.

Though that was the only time Stripling was named an All-Star, his best season may have been with the Blue Jays in 2022. The Pennsylvania native went 10-4 with a 3.01 ERA in 32 appearances (24 starts) that year.
